TEAM NEWS

Team News Bury v Wigan Athletic

Latics have a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of the trip to the Energy Check Stadium, with only one absence in the form of Samy Morsy who continues to carry out his international duties with Egypt.

Midfielder Shaun MacDonald delivered a positive 90 minutes in the Central League Cup final against Mansfield Town on Tuesday, returning from a knee injury picked up in his previous return from a long-term broken leg.

Zeli Ismail hasn't featured for the Shakers since their clash with Oldham Athletic, with Eoghan O'Connell absent since January.

Striker Jermaine Beckford is Bury's long-term concern with a knee injury set to keep him out until next season.

Loan midfielder Josh Laurent is unavailable for Saturday's game due to Latics being his parent club.

DUNKLEY 50

Attendance: 5,207 (2,040 away)

Another superb away performance from Paul Cook’s Latics saw 2,040 travelling supporters head home happy from the Energy Check Stadium on Saturday as the promotion charge continued for Wigan Athletic.

Goals either side of half-time from Nick Powell and Chey Dunkley earned Latics a third consecutive Sky Bet League One away win and a return to the automatic promotion places – still with games in hand on their direct rivals.

Latics were unchanged from the midweek win at Walsall as Cook backed the momentum from the win in the Midlands to see his side through another 90 minutes.

On a difficult surface, both sides struggled to create openings inside the opening quarter-hour and it was in face the hosts who had the first chance as Nathan Cameron headed off target following a corner from Harry Bunn.

Stephen Dawson then shot over after a good spell of pressure for the Shakers but Latics defended well and got their reward minutes later.

The break started with Ryan Colclough on the left, the winger feeding fellow wide man Michael Jacobs – who had joined up in support – before he crossed for Powell to finish at close range.

Latics immediately grew in confidence and Powell almost had a second but couldn’t keep his header down at the back post from a Power corner.

A minute later and Latics were in again; James Vaughan charging Bury goalkeeper Connor Ripley down to block his clearance before Powell broke and crossed for Jacobs, who couldn’t quite convert in the centre.

Christian Walton then saved well from a Neil Danns effort from range before Max Power nearly popped up with a second for Latics as the game opened up, unfortunately his finish let him down after being played in by Colclough.

Latics should have had a second on the stroke of half-time as another drive on the break from Powell say Jay Fulton played in but he was denied by Ripley when one-on-one.

Cook’s side started the second-half brightly; Colclough again looking dangerous on the left after receiving the ball from a Power free-kick.  The former Crewe Alexandra man beat Ryan Cooney and crossed for Dan Burn, who couldn’t quite divert the ball home before Vaughan also had an effort deflected away.

Burn’s central defensive partner Dunkley did make the decisive impact minutes later, though, as he headed home his sixth goal of the season at the back from a Power corner.

Walton was again called into action by Jay O’Shea as the match hit the hour mark, but the goalkeeper wasn’t letting another clean sheet go away from his impressive tally.

Latics thought they had a third just after the hour as Nathan Byrne shot towards goal, but Vaughan’s touch as the ball beat Ripley came from an offside position.

Jacobs nearly added another to his growing tally of Latics goals as the game entered the final five minutes, though he was denied by Ripley at close range after a brave run.

Bury: Ripley, Cooney, Leigh, Cameron, Clarke, Danns, Dawson (Capt) (Styles 62), O'Shea (Hanson 77), Bunn, Mayor (Maguire 72), Miller
Subs: Murphy, Ince, Thompson, Dai.

Latics: Walton, Byrne, Elder, Power, Vaughan, Jacobs, Dunkley, Powell (Perkins 68), Colclough (Massey 84), Fulton (Roberts 62), Burn (Capt)
Subs: Jones, Grigg, Cole, Bruce.
