Latics face a first-ever meeting against Crawley Town on Saturday as the League Two side travel up from Sussex in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Paul Cook's side are currently on an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions, sitting second in League One and having not lost in 14 matches at the DW Stadium.
Pit that against a Crawley side with just two goals in seven matches and just four wins in their last 26 games and you have a home banker... but this is the FA Cup and that's not how it works.
Cook spoke in his pre-match press conference about the importance of maintaining form and rhythm, stating he will name a strong side with the aim of being in the hat for the Second Round draw on Monday night.
Crawley will hope a cup run could add some spark to their season and Crawley boss Harry Kewell, an FA Cup winner in 2006, says his side will be in for a tough game, albeit he's positive they can get a result.
"Obviously it’s going to be a difficult tie but looking at how they set up they will try and play and that might suit us rather than having go to a non-league team where it’s all a bit of an unknown," he told Crawley's official website.
"Our away record is good and while we know our concentration levels will have to be at their best for 90-plus minutes on Saturday we do feel we can get a positive result.”
Paul Cook confirmed on Friday that Will Grigg will get some minutes whilst Michael Jacobs will be rested to avoid risking his thigh after recently recovering from a strain.
Otherwise, Christian Walton, Craig Morgan and Shaun MacDonald are longer-term absentees.
