EARLY TEAM NEWS

Speaking at his press call Paul Cook gave the following update on the fitness of his squad:

"We will have players missing against West Brom and we'll be forced to make changes due to some longer term injuries.

"Will Grigg is out after a hamstring issue with Northern Ireland and Michael Jacobs has picked up an injury which has required surgery.

"We obviously have Gavin Massey missing as well, but it's been encouraging to see him doing gym work and stepping up his recovery.

"It's disappointing to have players injured, but that's exactly why we've built a squad like we have, because we have the quality to step in."

Latics will also be without Darron Gibson for Saturday's game following his red card at Preston North End.

Latics' last XI against Preston: Walton, James, Dunkley, Kipre, Robinson, Gibson, Morsy, Windass, Powell, Jacobs, Grigg

Catch up with captain Samy Morsy ahead of the clash with West Brom as gives some insight into his international team mate Ahmed Hegazi.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION

Darren Moore's squad is almost at full strength ahead of their arrival at the DW Stadium on Saturday, with Matt Phillips expected to be available again following an injury picked up against Millwall last month.

New signing Bakary Sako could also be involved after arriving on a free transfer at the start of the month.

The Baggies' last XI against Reading: Johnstone, Gibbs, Bartley, Mears, Dawson, Hegazy, Livermore, Barnes, Barry, Gayle, Rodriguez

Attendance: 12,739 (3,750 away)

Josh Windass scored the only goal of the game as Latics continued their fine DW Stadium unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship with a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Windass, who worked tirelessly all afternoon, finished coolly on 74 minutes to give Latics a first win since their 1-0 victory over Bristol City prior to the international break.

With injury and suspension ruling a number of Paul Cook’s squad out, the boss had to be inventive with his line-up and he used Dan Burn at left back in place of Antonee Robinson, who was rested after international duty, with Gary Roberts, Nathan Byrne and Lee Evans also returning to the starting XI.

Latics were put under early pressure by the Sky Bet Championship’s highest scores in the early stages as Christian Walton was forced to make an early save from a Jay Rodriguez header before Harvey Barnes was denied by a blocked effort from Chey Dunkley.

Windass was the first to go close for Latics on the half hour as neat build-up saw Nick Powell play the forward into the channel but he chipped off target.

Windass and Powell were involved again five minutes later as Roberts played the former Rangers man into the left channel to cross for Powell, who couldn’t quite fire home.

Powell had chances as the half wore on; first seeing a looping header go over from a deep Lee Evans cross before firing a free-kick from the edge of the area straight into the wall after he’d been brought down.

Windass and Roberts efforts on the stroke of half-time couldn’t quite get Latics in front and, just after the restart, Latics continued to create the better opportunities.

Roberts saw an effort tipped wide by Sam Johnstone on 66 minutes before his give and go with Windass saw Johnstone forced into another save from the latter’s strike.

After neat and intricate football for the majority, Windass’ goal came in route one style as he latched on to Powell’s flick on before firing home with precision from the edge of the area.

As the game edged to the closing stages, Chey Dunkley headed narrowly wide from a Roberts cross before the visitors were reduced to ten men after Jake Livermore received a second yellow card for a foul on Windass after good pressing from the forward.

Wigan Athletic: Walton; James, Kipre, Dunkley, Burn; Morsy (Capt), Evans; Byrne (Vaughan 90), Windass, Roberts (Naismith 89); Powell (Connolly 86).
Subs: Jones, McManaman, Da Silva Lopes, Garner.

West Bromwich Albion: Johnstone; Mears (Edwards 77), Dawson (Adarabioyo 48), Hegazi, Bartley, Gibbs; Barnes, Livermore, Brunt; Gayle (Robson-Kanu 75), Rodriguez.
Subs: Myhill, Townsend, Hoolahan, Field.
