Nick Chadwick’s Development Squad recorded another Central League victory on Tuesday afternoon as they beat Port Vale 2-1 at Christopher Park.

Joe Gelhardt cancelled out Ricky Miller’s opener before trialist Louis Doyle won the match for Latics in the closing stages.

Latics first team players Antonee Robinson, Callum McManaman, Shaun MacDonald and Gary Roberts were all involved for Chadwick’s side.

Chadwick’s side started brightly and went close as Gelhardt rolled the ball across the area to McManaman, who shot past Sam Hornby but against the post.

Sam Tickle then had to tip over an effort from Miller before McManaman was again denied by Hornby in a series of good saves from both goalkeepers.

Just before the break, Vale got in front as the ball bounced up for Miller 20 yards out and he sent a superb volley across Tickle into the far corner

With 20 minutes remaining, Latics had a great chance to level as Gelhardt slid the ball through for Roberts who, clean through down the centre, fired over from the edge of the area.

Latics did equalise 15 minutes from time as a sharp passing move at the edge of the box resulted in the ball being worked to Gelhardt who scored first time from 15 yards.

Five minutes from time, Latics got their winner to move top of the Central League as Doyle finished at close range following a cross into the area.
