Latics started their return to the Central League with a dramatic late point away at Notts County on the opening day of the 2018-19 season on Tuesday thanks to a bullet header in stoppage time from Kyle Joseph.
Nick Chadwick's side fell behind midway through the first half to a Will Patching goal, the Manchester City midfielder stealing the ball from goalkeeper Bobby Jones to roll the Magpies' opener home.
Latics didn't go without chances throughout, striker Charlie Jolley was denied by Notts County keeper Max Culverwell in the first half, before Divin Baningime was twice kept at bay by the hosts' stopper.
Substitute Mitchell Culshaw almost played in the perfect assist across the face of goal but was denied by the face of a Notts County defender, before Latics finally broke through.
Substitute Will McGuffie picked out Tylor Golden with a sensational cross-field pass, allowing the full back to drive his cross into the area for Joseph's thumping header at the back post for 1-1.
Latics are back in Central League action on Tuesday 18 September at home against Grimsby Town, before taking on Blackpool in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup on 2 October.
