Latics dominated their way to an 11th consecutive victory as league leaders of the EFL Youth Alliance, brushing aside Preston North End on Saturday morning.
A double from Charlie Jolley and a late own goal at UCLan Sports Arena saw off title rivals North End, to give Nick Chadwick's side the perfect start to 2018.
Jolley was on target inside 11 minutes when he met a cross from the left with his head, before doubling the lead in the 65th minute when a deflection took him one-v-one with Preston keeper James Cottam for the finish.
Substitute Mwiya Malumo came close to making it 3-0 with two minutes remaining, but Cottam denied the striker and Tom Stead prevented Jolley from following in the rebound for his hat-trick.
Three minutes later Latics did round off their victory when a deflection during a goal-mouth scramble caused by Malumo wrong-footed Cottam to bobble over the line.
