Latics fell to their first EFL Youth Alliance defeat since September 2017, dropping to a 2-0 defeat away at Rochdale to end a 10-game winning streak in the league.
After an early barrage of Latics attacks including a missed penalty, Dale broke through twice, first through Fabio Tavares who cut inside from the right to finish right footed, and then through Neil Kemgni-Kuemo who skipped down the left to beat Jordan Perrin from a tight angle.
Despite the defeat, Latics remain top of the Youth Alliance table on 36 points, five ahead of Saturday's opponents Rochdale, who have two games in hand.
