Wigan Athletic’s under-18s continued their fine run of form with a 5-3 win over Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.
Nick Chadwick’s side are now 2nd in the EFL Youth Alliance table, behind Rochdale on goal difference alone.
They went behind in this one, though, as Blackpool’s Rowan Roache cut inside onto his right foot to curl home from just inside the Latics penalty area.
Latics got back level when Theo Roberts’ long ball over the top found Mitchell Culshaw, who beat one man before being brought down by another for a penalty, James Berry converted from spot.
Latics went behind to a Roache penalty soon after but got back level when Jensen Weir and Culshaw linked up to provide Berry with his second goal.
It was 3-2 to the hosts when Tylor Golden was beaten down the right before a cross into the area for Dylan Sumner to fire home.
For a third time, Latics got level when Golden won a header in midfield, Berry helped on to Culshaw who crossed from right for Divin Baningime to slide and finish from close range.
Berry and Will McGuffie won the ball back then in the build-up to Latics’ fourth, which was converted by in form striker Mwiya Malumo.
The fifth came after Jamie Cotter intercepted an attempted ball forward from Blackpool and played in Baningime first time who beat his man and broke free down the left before poking home from ten yards.
Latics: T. Roberts; Brooks (Golden 67), B. Roberts, Obi, Hilton, Smith (Cotter 67), Culshaw, Monoghan (McGuffie 67), Jolley (Malumo 67), Berry, Weir (Baningime 67)
