- Back-to-back wins for the under-18s.
Wigan Athletic’s under-18 side recorded their second win of the week with a 2-0 success over Rochdale on Saturday afternoon.
Mwiya Malumo got both goals for Nick Chadwick’s side, continuing his impressive start to the campaign.
Rochdale started the game brightly, getting in down the left a couple of times with good chances, one of which hit the post.
After ten minutes, though, Latics gained momentum and started to work patterns with good passing. Mitchell Culshaw terrorised Dale’s left back all game long and should have had a clear penalty after being brought down in the box whilst Joe Downey and Will McGuffie dominated for the most part in midfield.
The first goal came after 13 minutes as Tylor Golden beat his man, shifted the ball onto his left foot and put a ball into the box for Divin Baningme to shoot – his initial shot was saved but Mwiya Malumo tapped in the rebound.
The second goal came straight after the second half kicked off as Adam long intercepted a loose Rochdale pass which allowed Anthony Plant to play into Baningme. He then slid in Culshaw who again beat his man for pace and crossed low into the box for Malumo to get in front of his defender and finish around the corner for his 10th goal this season.
Latics: Perrin, Plant, Golden, Obi, Long, Downey, Culshaw, McGuffie, Malumo (Jolley 88), Baningme (Weir 74), Maffeo.
Subs: McGaughey, Monaghan, Hilton.
