A hat-trick from Charlie Jolley and a Kyle Joseph brace helped Latics’ under-18s to a 5-2 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
Latics feel behind early in the game but drew level when a quick free-kick between Scott Smith and Jensen Weir freed Joe Gelhardt, whose first time pass around the corner found Divin Baningime, who drove forward before sliding in Jolley to finish first time with a looping finish.
Blackburn regained their lead soon after but Jolley got Latics back on level terms after another Baningime assist and good play by Smith.
Jolley’s hat-trick came after Smith again won possession and found Baningime, who again provided the assist for Jolley to finish well for his hat-trick from the right angle of the box.
Latics made it 4-2 when a strong goal kick from Bobby Jones found Joseph, who brought the ball down well out before finishing to all-but secure the win after a sustained spell of Blackburn pressure.
The fifth came after good play down the right from Ollie Broe as he beat four players on a mazy run and broke into the box only to his effort saved, with the rebound being tapped home by Joseph.
