Wigan Athletic’s under-18s turned out another superb performance in difficult conditions to defeat Carlisle United 3-0 on Saturday.
Kyle Joseph scored twice after Will McGuffie opened the scoring to earn a comprehensive win at Christopher Park.
McGuffie’s opener came when he headed home from a Scott Smith cross after just 11 minutes.
Latics had to wait an hour for their second as pressure from Charlie Jolley saw a rushed clearance from Carlisle fall to McGuffie, who drove forward and struck the crossbar from 18 yards. Latics didn’t give up, though, and Divin Baningime hit the post from the follow up before Joseph bundled home at the third time of asking.
Just seven minutes later and the game was wrapped up as Smith and Baningime linked up before Joseph joined and was presented with the chance to poke the ball home in the penalty area.
Latics were completely dominant and must be pleased with another fine result in an impressive early season.
