Latics long server excited for Chelsea clash
The anticipation is building ahead of Wigan Athletic’s opening Barclays Premier League fixture of 2012-13 and with just three more days to go until kick-off Emmerson Boyce said he was ready as ever.
“You can ask any footballer and they will say they just want to get pre-season out of the way and just want the season to start.
“We’ve got an extra day to prepare compared to most teams because we play on Sunday and we just can’t wait now.
“The extra day wait is a bit frustrating but, once we start playing on Sunday hopefully the result will go our way and we can put in a good team performance.”
“We’ve had a few players away on international duty and it’s good to see we’ve had no injuries or scares.”
Memories of the reverse fixture last season at Stamford Bridge will still be sore for Latics fans but, Boyce believes focus on the task in hand is more important.
“Last year we felt hard done by but we can’t dwell on that.
“We’ve got a few new players this season and so have Chelsea so it is going to be a testing game for us but, we’ve got quite a good record against them at the DW Stadium and hopefully we can continue that on Sunday.
“If we go out there and play our game then we can come away with some points from it.”
