Emmerson Boyce drops in on Latics Summer School

Latics star Emmerson Boyce took time out from his pre-season preparation this week to meet a group of young footballers at a Summer Soccer School organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust.

The 30 children were taking part in a week long camp at the Deanery High School when the defender dropped in to give them a few pointers on how the professional’s do it.

Emmerson, who holds the Club record for most appearances in the Premier League, was joined by Latics mascots Phoenix and Blue on his visit, and said: “It was great to meet the kids and help out at the football course. As professionals it’s important that we take part in these sort of activities and the Club do a great job in organising things for kids to do in the summer.”

As well as meeting the right-back, the children were given a free ticket to the game against Chelsea and also got the opportunity to win special prizes – including the chance to meet Latics boss Roberto Martinez before a home game.

The football course was just one of the activities organised by the Club’s Latics in the Community scheme this summer. Hundreds of children have taken part in activities ranging from Pay as You Play football sessions from £5 a day to free football coaching and multi-sports sessions in the evening.

And with just a few weeks of the summer left there are still spaces available on the Latics Soccer School running at Deanery High School between Tuesday August 28th and Friday August 31st. Each day runs from 9am – 4pm and costs just £15 a day or £60 for five days, or £50 for four days depending on which course you attend.

Every child who takes part will also receive an individual report card, certificate and their own Team Latics T-shirts.
