Roberto Martinez says his Latics team will respect Newcastle United on Monday.

“We need to be aware of Newcastle’s quality,” said Martinez.

“It hasn’t been an easy run for Newcastle in terms of results which makes it a very dangerous time to play them.

“The current team hasn’t changed since last campaign when they did really well to finish where they did and get into European competition.

“They’ve got two strikers in Demba and Papiss Cisse that have had very powerful impact on games.

“We will give them and their team a lot of respect when we go to St James’ Park as you have to.”

Martinez believes the game is a big one in the course of the season and his team are eager to get a positive result after such an impressive performance on Wednesday against Manchester City.

“The game on Monday against Newcastle has an extra significance to us because we are disappointed about not picking up points against Man City in a game that we feel we did well in.

“It is a must win game from that point of view because our standards have been very good and when we are playing like this we need to also pick up points.

“We are anxious to get out onto the pitch again and try to pick up a positive result which we thought we should have got against Man City.

“From our point of view it is a very exciting game to be building up to and a very important one as well.”
