Roberto Martinez believes the support of Latics eccentric fancy dress fans will be a boost.

As is tradition for Wigan Athletic fans on Boxing Day, many will approach Goodison Park in all manner of costumes, something which the gaffer is pleased to hear.

“Every single Boxing Day fixture the Club has is full of excitement and the fans add to that with the way they turn up and support the team,” said Martinez.

“The fans always surprise us in the fancy dress that they turn up in and we expect many different costumes to turn up at Goodison Park which is going to be some site to see.

“The Boxing Day tradition will give us a fantastic push because seeing the fans enjoying themselves is a big boost for the players.

“The support we received against Arsenal was second to none and I think we are building up to being that strong unit again for the second half of the season.”

Another boost for the manager is the news of certain players getting back towards full fitness, including Gary Caldwell and Ivan Ramis.

“Gary Caldwell will be close to full fitness to play against Everton but, we will have to assess James McCarthy and Ivan Ramis.

“Ivan and Gary have very similar characters in that they are so determined to come back and help the team.

“James has that desire too but, he worked extremely hard to be fit for the Arsenal game and so will be 50-50 ahead of Everton.”

With Ryo Miyaichi, Antolin Alcaraz, Albert Crusat and Adrian Lopez all still side lined, Martinez said the squad has to pull together and share responsibility.

“The squad has been a little small in numbers recently but not in effort and we have the determination to succeed in the next few games and for the rest of the season.

“We need to share the effort around the squad during this period because we have a spell of four games in 11 days and if players can come back into the group from injury then it will be a big boost.”
