Shaun Maloney expects tough game and admits Latics need to be at their best when they face Manchester United.

“It is a massive game for us having beaten them at the DW Stadium last season and we will go into the game with a lot of confidence,” said Maloney.

“We’ve been working really hard on this game in the last few days and having won the last game, there’s no better time than to get right back into action.

“As always with Man United we have to be at our best and I think in terms of our performances over the last few games we are very close to that.

“We know what has to be done and we are more motivated than ever to show everyone what we are made of.”

The midfielder insists that Saturday’s impressive victory over Aston Villa and the power of the fans will play a big part against United and in the coming weeks.

“Time will tell whether we can create a real sequence of results now and we’ve got to make sure we follow up the good win against Aston Villa by getting something against Manchester United.

“Our supporters will play a big part just like they did last year and I’ve just go to say how well they have supported us so far this season and particularly over the festive period.

“The fans never get on our backs even when we go through spells without a win.

“We really appreciate the way they behave because they never put us under any pressure and the only thing they ask for is 100 per cent which we try to give them every week.”
