Five new recruits meet manager Roberto Martinez
Wigan Athletic Community Trust has recruited five new apprentices to work for it and last week they got the chance to meet Club boss Roberto Martinez.
The five young people are on a 12 month apprenticeship with the Community Trust and will work on a range of range of football and sports projects during their placements while also gaining a level 3 qualification in sport.
Four of the participants came through the Train with Latics programme which aims to provide training opportunities for unemployed young people between the ages of 16- 18.
“Young people across the country are facing many challenges at the moment and I think it’s great that the Club is giving young people in Wigan the chance to gain jobs and experience as football coaches.
“When I met them I told them it’s important to work hard to make the most of their opportunity so they can hopefully go on and have long careers in football and with Wigan Athletic.”
The apprentices have been recruited by Latics in the Community in partnership with Pro-Co one of Wigan’s leading learning and skills providers and who manage the Montrose Skills Hub facility that the Community Trust operate from.
Head of Community Tom Flower said: “The Latics Apprenticeship programme allows us to provide new employment opportunities to young people in Wigan and are just part of the Club’s on-going commitment in trying to help young people get ahead in life.”
