Park Life – After serving his country away in Belgium James McArthur has returned to the training ground ahead of Saturday’s clash with Swansea City

It may have been two defeats for Scotland’s national team during the international period but, Latics’ battling midfielder McArthur was happy to have been given his first competitive start.

“It was really good to be away with the Scotland team but it was just disappointing not the get three points in either game.

“The Belgium game was my first competitive start for Scotland so it was really good and hopefully there will be more to come.

“I felt that we deserved points from the Wales game and we worked really hard in the Belgium game but they’re a really good side and it was a hard task to go there and get anything.”

His return to the Club has come with a sense of optimism as McArthur believes it is time to kick on in the Barclays Premier League.

“It’s good to be back at the Club and we haven’t got any distractions now for a long period of time.

“Saturday is a massive game for us and we need to make sure that we are ready to go out there and get three points.

“Swansea are still a top side, they get the ball down and play football which is obviously quite similar to our style.

“They are going through a bit of a hard spell right now and hopefully we can make it a bit harder for them.”

The 25-year-old added.

“Against Everton we played really well and we were back to doing what we were doing at the end of last season.

“We were working really hard for each other and getting the ball on the floor and playing some good football which, if we carry on doing we have a good chance of getting a good result.

“If we keep trying hard in training and can turn in a good performance this weekend then I’m sure we will be able to push on and start getting back-to-back wins as well.”
