Latics gear up for three games in seven days and striker Callum McManaman is looking forward to impressing the gaffer.
“I want to be involved all the time but, I’m patient and when the chance comes I’ll be ready to help make in impact,” said McManaman.
“I’m full of confidence now because I’m getting involved every week on first team match days which means I’ve obviously worked hard enough to impress the gaffer.
“The games in the Capital One Cup have really helped my career progression because now I’m coming on in Premier League games more than ever.
“Playing in the Under 21 games at home has benefited me as well because of the way the first team style filters down.
“There were a lot of first team professionals playing in the Nottingham Forest game on Monday and that really helped because the game just flowed so easily.”
West Ham United on Saturday is the first challenge for Latics and the 21-year-old wants it to be a key moment in the season.
“We need to pick up three points this weekend and we have to pull together well as a team.
“We really need that first home win of the season because it will give a real feel good factor around the Club and it will kick everyone on for Tuesday against Bradford City.
“It will be good to play West Ham again because we already know what some of their players are about.
“West Ham of course play a more direct style of football with some very physical players but the contrast in styles should make it a very good game.”
