Landmark occasion for defender despite cup defeat

Jordan Mustoe scored the first senior goal of his career on Tuesday night, whilst making his debut for Morecambe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Preston North End.

Cheered on by Latics team-mates Callum McManaman, Adam Buxton and Jamie McCormack at the Globe Arena, the 21-year-old started the game and opened the scoring after 20 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball inside the area and poking into the back of the net, before being substituted in the 83rd minute.

The landmark in his career was to be overshadowed however as Preston went on to win the game 4-2 and progress to the third round of the northern section.

Meanwhile elsewhere on loan, Lee Nicholls continues to impress at Northampton Town having made 12 appearances and kept five clean sheets so far during his time at the Sixfields Stadium. He and the Cobblers prepare to face Exeter at home in the npower League Two on Saturday.

21-year-old Rob Kiernan made his third appearance for Burton Albion at the weekend, again playing the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Morecambe. The Brewers take on Bristol Rovers at the Pirelli Stadium this weekend.

Finally, Nouha Dicko is again excelling in his second loan spell at Blackpool. The French winger has so far scored three goals in nine appearances for the Tangerines, his latest a spectacular overhead kick winner against Hull City in the Championship. Ian Holloway’s side are away this weekend to face Burnley at Turf Moor.
