Roberto Martinez paid a visit to Latics’ oldest known fan and brought along some special gifts.

Not many supporters can say they are older than the team they follow but, for 100 year old Tom Gill, who celebrated his birthday yesterday, he can claim that he’s seen it all.

Life-long Latics supporter Tom is the first in a four tier generation of Latics fans, being a season ticket holder who attends game with his son, grandson and two great grandchildren.

The Club thought there would be no better way to repay Tom’s loyal support than having manager Roberto Martinez hand deliver a birthday cake and signed shirt from the current Wigan Athletic squad.

The gaffer said.

“It is great to see that we have such an outstanding supporter of the Club.

“Tom will have seen every Wigan Athletic moment, from the formation to the first league game, all the way to the Barclays Premier League.

“We wanted to repay his many years of support with a gesture and so we thought what better than a birthday cake.

“We hope to see Tom at the game on Saturday against West Ham United and hopefully we can give him an even better gift with a victory.”
