Park Life - Latics young midfielder Danny Redmond says his friend and team-mate Callum McManaman has been inspiring in Under 21s
Yesterday saw Wigan Athletic’s Under 21 team come from 3-0 down against Barnsley to draw 3-3 courtesy of a superb performance by 21-year-old Callum McManaman who grabbed himself a brace.
The exciting young forward now has four goals in three games across the various Latics’ teams this season with one of course coming in the 4-1 victory against Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup.
His team-mate Redmond has also been in good form this season and has himself notched up two goals for the Under 21s.
“Me and Callum played together for many years before we came to the Club and we’ve just got that understanding of where we are going to be on the pitch without even looking.
“The better you know the players, the better you are going to play together so having Cal in the team is great.
“Cal’s scored two great goals yesterday
“He’s a fantastic player and scores most of the goals for the Under 21s when he plays and we are grateful to have him in the team to score.”
Redmond said he also has goals of his own to complete as the season progresses.
“Obviously I’d like to prove myself to the gaffer and hopefully do well enough for him to give me a chance in the first team.
“If that doesn’t happen then maybe later on in the year I’ll get the chance to go out on loan again.
“I’ve been involved a few times in the FA Cup over the past couple of years and it would be nice to get a start in the cups but, I have to work hard for that.
“When you’re young and not getting the starts then it gives you eagerness for when you get on the pitch and it makes you give your all.”
