Long-serving goalkeeper shares his views on FA Cup semi final.
Mike Pollitt is the only remaining member of Wigan Athletic’s last cup semi final still at the club and knows all about the excitement and pressure when just a game away from a final.
Although the 2006 semi final was in the League Cup, Pollitt believes the same mentality will be used in the current squad and that desire will be the key.
The 41-year-old said:
“The semi final is massive for the group and I’ve seen that so far this week because everyone’s excited.
“It’s a game at Wembley which doesn’t happen too often in anyone’s career and the team will only get hungrier to play there again once they kick off on Saturday.
“It wasn’t mentioned in the last few weeks because the dressing room has been focused on league games but the buzz will start to kick in this week.”
Despite not being available for the game against Millwall, Pollitt does have plans to get involved with the build-up.
“I’ll be down watching the semi final and it will be great to soak up the atmosphere, it’s just a shame that I can’t be available for this one.
“People have found it hard to afford to go down to Wembley because it’s an expensive occasion to attend but it’s going to be great and I’m sure all of the fans who are there are going to make great noise.
“It’s going to be an amazing occasion and just to say I’m with the club during this period is a great honour.”
