Paul Scharner says Latics must show determination to win.

“Tomorrow against Tottenham Hotspur is about the will to win and we have to show determination in all of our remaining games to win them,” said the Austrian defender.

“Sometimes it doesn’t matter how you win, whether it is a 3-0 or 4-0 with fantastic football or whether we get a crucial goal at the end of a game like we did against Norwich and Newcastle.

“We need the determination that we showed in those games and everyone is ready to give their all for the last six games of the season.”

The 33-year-old said Latics have been unfortunate to miss out in their last two games against Manchester City and West Ham United and crucial margins need to be achieved.

“I think we should have won the last two games but we have just missed out at both ends of the pitch.

“We’ve missed that important touch in the final third and you can see in the games before QPR that we didn’t play our best but we won against Newcastle and Norwich because we were incredibly determined.”

Scharner believes the team have the quality and belief to make sure that victories are achieved.

He said:

“It’s going to take at least another nine points and our aim is to get as many as possible.

“Everybody at the club has confidence because of the effort that we give and we’re going to need that until the very end of the season.”

On the factor of the FA Cup Scharner added:

“The FA Cup final is in the mind as well but to be honest I would connect that with the Premier League because it brings confidence to the team.

“It brings a good feeling with it and we can’t hide that fact, it can be used as a real positive.”
