Ronnie Stam believes draw will drive Latics forward.

After yesterday’s late drama in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, right wing back Ronne Stam explained that the bad feeling of losing two points late on will only have a positive effect.

Stam said:

“We should have won the game because we were 2-1 up at home with just a minute to go so right now it’s a very hard feeling to take.

“It doesn’t matter how well we perform, the thing now is that we have to win but dropping points so late on will only drive our desire on.”

Stam admitted that a point in other circumstances would be okay but the Dutchman believes Latics performance deserved much more.

He said:

“We needed to carry on after we scored our second goal and if we had got a third one then I think we would have seen the game out.

“We played really well and created lots of chances which is very good against a team like Tottenham but now is the time to take our chances.

“We stopped Tottenham from playing and we made it difficult for them to create chances.

“They didn’t create chances in the second half and our performance was brilliant."

On a personal not Stam said he enjoyed Latics attacking style and thinks that performing the same will turn draws into victories.

“I came on and played my game the way that the manager asked me to and I got in some crosses which troubled the goalkeeper.

“We all go out onto the pitch looking to put lots of pressure on teams and that showed when we scored our second goal because we started quickly in the second half.

“It’s great for myself because I’m a player who likes to attack and hopefully the more we keep playing in this manner the more confident of getting three points we will be.”
