Season ticket sales on rise as army of fans prepare for Oakwell
As Wigan Athletic prepare to kick off the 2013/14 season fans have been snapping up tickets for the team’s opening game at Barnsley whilst Season Ticket sales continue to rise before our first home game against Doncaster Rovers on August 20.
Over 2,000 supporters are expected to travel to Oakwell for Owen Coyle’s first competitive game in charge of Latics this weekend, the largest away following since our 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in 2012. There are no more tickets on sale at the DW Stadium ticket office but fans can pay on the day at Oakwell**.
Season ticket sales meanwhile, continue to grow with figures approaching the 9,000 mark with just over two weeks remaining before Doncaster arrive at the DW Stadium.
Delighted with the show of support he’s seen since arriving at the club, Manager Owen Coyle praised the efforts of the fans, saying:
“On Tuesday night we had a fans forum at the DW Stadium in support of the Joseph’s Goal charity, and the vibes from all the supporters were very high, and I have to say I was thrilled with the excitement people had for the start of the new season.
“We’ve got a great number of fans travelling to Oakwell this weekend which is brilliant, and now it’s up to the players to go out there and repay the fans for the wonderful backing we’ve had.
“We’re a united club and the collective effort that has impressed me so much is vital to what we want to achieve, promotion to the Premier League.”
Supporters wanting to join the army of fans travelling to Barnsley this weekend can do so by contacting the ticket office on 0871 66 33 552 or visiting the DW Stadium where a limited number of tickets remain. Alternatively, tickets are available on the day of the game at Oakwell but please note that Student and Under 12 tickets will not be available on the day.
