The tidal wave of games continues on Boxing Day at the DW Stadium with the visit of Lee Clark’s Birmingham City. The five day gap between the trip to Reading and the traditional post festive fixture is the largest break between games since the international break before the Brighton game on 23 November.
Birmingham City arrive at the DW Stadium on a seven game unbeaten run, their last defeat was at home to Charlton back on 2 November.
Latics have clearly turned a corner bringing and end to a run of fours straight league defeat with a win over local rivals Bolton Wanderers before last Saturday’s win at Reading. It could have been three straight wins but for heavy rain at Sheffield Wednesday where Latics led 1-0 before the match was abandoned on the hour mark.
Nouha Dicko could be in contention for a place in the squad after being recalled from his loan spell at Rotherham. Other than that Manager Uwe Rosler is keeping his cards close to his chest with regard to who’s available and who isn’t but has alluded to the fact that there will be a number of changes from Saturday’s win at Reading which ‘came at a cost.’ We do know that Ben Watson won’t play any part in the game as he picked up his fifth booking of the season at the Madejski Stadium and is suspended for this game. Shaun Maloney and Gary Caldwell remain the long-term injured players and there’s still no news on Scott Carson or Lee Nicholls.
Head to Head
The two sides have met 14 times previous in the league with the win count identical at six wins each. Latics were 2-1 winners last time the sides met back in March 2011 when the Premier League match at the DW Stadium. [Click here] for the full head to head.
