The game between Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic abandoned.

The fixture between Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough Stadium was abandoned due to adverse conditions at the ground as relentless rain hammered down on the turf, creating pools of standing water as the referee Keith Stroud deemed the surface unplayable.

On 60 minutes after a previous brief consultation with both managers, Stroud sounded his whistle and directed both sets of players off the pitch as an announcement was played over the system inside the ground.

Latics led at the time thanks to a James McClean goal midway through the first half, with the visitors dominating the opening 45 minutes.

A series of events sparked Stroud's initial consultation with the managers, as Leon Barnett had to hurdle an advertising board in order to avoid a collision after sliding out of play on the wet surface, while Nick Powell's one-on-one chance against Damian Martinez saw the forward miss kick the ball as the water pooled at his feet.

The match will be rescheduled for a future date when the full 90 minutes will be played, we'll have news of the re-arranged fixture here on the website as soon as possible.
