Match Highlights: Wigan Athletic 3 Bolton Wanderers 2 [watch now]
Latics travel to Hillsborough on Wednesday night to face Sheffield Wednesday for the first time ever in the league.
Both sides go into the game with two wins each from their last six league games and both on the back on big wins - Wigan over local rivals Bolton while Sheffield Wednesday were the last team to win at Vicarage Road before Gianfrano Zola's resignation from Watford.
The manager Uwe Rosler hinted at at least a couple of changes in his pre-match press conference and also stated that he will leave a number of players at home to benefit from a full week's training ahead of Saturday's game at Reading. He also said that there were a number of very minor injuries sustained by his players in the 3-2 over Botlon Wanderers but he expected everybody that played to be available if required. Ali Al Habsi and Gary Caldwell played in the behind closed doors friendly with Southport at the training ground on Tuesday, Rosler said both players will be crucial to the team's progress particularly towards the ends of the season where their experience on and off the field will be especially valuable.
Head to Head
This will be the first league meeting between the two sides they have only previously met in the FA Cup in 1975 and 1977. Latics were a non league side in January 1978 when they managed a 1-0 at Springfield Park, the win was revenge for the 2-0 defeat at the same stage of the competition 2 years earlier. Latics and Sheffield Wednesday did meet in a pre-season game under Steve Bruce on 2 August 2008 when goals from Emile Heskey, Titus Bramble and a late late winner from Amr Zaki sealed the victory.
