Maribor Head Coach insists his team will be ready for Latics

NK Maribor Head Coach Ante Simundza says his team will be well drilled for Thursday night’s Europa League fixture with Wigan Athletic in light of the arrival of Uwe Rosler as manager at Latics.

Simundza made his first appearance as Head Coach of Maribor against Latics on Matchday 2, and says Maribor have done their homework on Wigan Athletic as Rosler prepares to take charge of his first game against the Slovenian champions.

He said: “Every manager brings something new. According to the first information Uwe Rosler wants to return to the team’s style of play from previous seasons under the direction of Roberto Martinez.

“We looked at their last match on Saturday (against Millwall) and we are ready for both versions of Wigan, offensive and defensive – we will be able to respond to both options.”

Like Latics, Maribor need to win and hope Rubin Kazan triumph in Bruges against Zulte Waregem in order to progress in the competition and echoing the sentiments of Rosler in the German’s pre-match press conference, Simundza says his side can only do their best and hope for a bit of luck elsewhere:

“This match is important for both teams. We wanted to have the opportunity to advance until the last match and it happened. It is true that we are not depending just on ourselves, but that does not concern us.

“We will focus on our game and we will do everything to win. The match will be interesting for the fans, because both teams have to win, but we will not rush it.

“Since then (Matchday 2) we have raised our fitness. That’s the biggest difference, now we are on a higher level. It will be game number 35 for us in the season but motivation is so high that we wouldn’t be tired. It will be a privilege to play game 35, that means we are successful.”
