Captain hopes for a good showing against Huddersfield Town.

“We’ll be looking at the game against Huddersfield as a chance to boost our confidence throughout the squad,” said Gary Caldwell.

“We’re battling in the league at the moment but we still have the chance to make this a memorable and historic season for Wigan Athletic.

“Obviously we can’t lose sight of our goals and staying in the Premier League is the most important thing but if we can keep on going in the FA Cup and possibly get to the final or even win it, it would be an unbelievable achievement.”

Caldwell is yet to feature for Wigan Athletic in this season’s FA Cup but is determined to play his part if called upon by the manager.

“We’re three rounds away from the final so there’s still a lot to play for and we will have to work extremely hard as a squad if we want to go far in this competition.

“It would be nice to play in this competition because of what it means in terms of history and tradition but obviously we’ll have to wait and see what team the gaffer picks.

“Every game until the end of the season is important and the games are week-to-week now until the end of the season and there are no midweek games left unless we draw in the cup.

“As a team that would mean we don’t really need a rest and I don’t think the side will be changed too much and I’m sure every cup game and every league game will be extremely competitive.”
