McManaman and Kone nominated for ‘Player of the Round’ award

Between them they scored three goals at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon, in helping Latics qualify for the quarter final of the FA Cup, after a 4-1 defeat of Huddersfield Town.

Now, Callum McManaman and Arouna Kone have been nominated for the Budweiser Player of the Round award, following their impressive individual performances, and you can help them pick up the honour.

McManaman scooped the Man of the Match award on the day, scoring the opening goal and playing a key role in Kone’s opener, whilst providing a constant threat for Roberto Martinez’s team throughout the game. ITV’s Mark Pougatch selected the 21-year-old as his stand out player.

Arouna Kone marked his return to the starting line-up with a brace; finishing off from close range in the first-half, before lashing home his second in the 89th minute to put the tie to bed. The Sun journalist Justin Allen put the Ivorian’s name forward as candidate for the award.

The pair were named alongside Barnsley’s Chris Dagnall, Blackburn Rovers’ Jake Kean and Oldham Athletic’s Matt Smith. The player who tops the poll will receive a commemorative Budweiser Player of the Round trophy and will be invited to the FA Cup Final in May as a guest of The FA and Budweiser.

Fans have until Monday 4 March to vote for their favourite player, and can do so from The FA’s official website, or by clicking here and following the instructions.
