Scans reveal Spaniard out for the season but injury could have been more severe.
The club can confirm that the news regarding Defender Ivan Ramis is"as good as it co uld be."
Scans undertaken yesterday have revealed that the 28 year old has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. However the injury could have been far worse and it is anticipated that, after undergoing surgery as soon as possible the Spaniard should be ready to return in time for the start of next season.
Manager Roberto Martinez said, "nothing can disguise the fact this is a massive blow becuase Ivan is a key memebr of the group but we are relieved that the injury is not a severe as we feared it could have been.
"The most important thing now is to think of Ivan's welfare, get the operation completed, and for him to begin his rehabilititation. Ivan is a very strong and positive character and he is determined to return to fitness as soon as he can.
"He will receive the best possible medical rehabilitation as the club ensures to have him return as an even stronger footballer."
Since his summer move from Real Mallorca Ivan Ramis has proven to be a major player for Latics scoring two Premier League goals in 14 appearances as well as one goal in the Capital One Cup.
