Get to know Wigan Athletic’s latest signing

Thomas Rogne today became Latics’ third signing of the summer, but how much do you know about our Norwegian defender? Here’s ten quick facts to bring you up to speed with the new boy.

1. Rogne was born in Baerum, Norway on June 29 1990.

2. Thomas becomes Wigan Athletic’s third Norwegian player, after Erik Hagen who made one appearance for the club against Portsmouth in March 2008. Hagen was on loan, so Rogne becomes our first permanent Norwegian signing.

3. The defender will be reunited with former Celtic team-mate Shaun Maloney at Latics. The pair spent just over a year playing together with Celtic before Maloney moved to the DW Stadium in 2011.

4. The centre-half began his career at local club Stabaek, and in 2009 helped them to lift the Superfinalen, contested between the nation’s league winner and cup winners.

5. Described as one of the best young talents to come out for Norway for some time, Thomas moved to Celtic in January 2010, signed by Bhoys boss at the time Tony Mowbray.

6. During his 50 league appearances for the SPL side, Rogne scored two goals; against Kilmarnock in December 2010 and another in the Old Firm at Ibrox in March 2012.

7. During his time at Parkhead, Rogne won one Scottish Cup (2011) and back-t0-back SPL titles (2011/12 & 2012/13)

8. He made his international bow for the senior team in February 2012 in a 3-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland, and has one other cap to his name.

9. In this year’s European Under-21 Championships, he helped Norway reach the semi final stage, featuring in their 3-1 win over England and 1-1 draw with Italy.

10. Last season, the centre-half made 19 appearances in all competitions for Celtic, including two appearances in Champions League qualification matches.
