New boy hopes to help create new era at the club

New signing Marc-Antoine Fortune told Latics Player how excited he is to be joining the club with so many changes taking place, and hopes the squad can come together this season to help write a new chapter for Wigan Athletic:

“There are a lot of changes taking place at the club at this moment,” said the 32-year-old, “but I’m sure that the new faces and players who have already been here can help write a new chapter for the club and go straight back to the Premier League.

“I already know quite a few of the players here from playing with them at Celtic and West Brom, so I hope they will help me to settle in quickly, but to be honest I’m so excited to be joining the club that I’m sure it won’t be a big problem.

“I hope the fans will see in me a player who will give them 100% in every game and fight to help make the club successful. We have a few away games at the start of the season before we play our first game at the DW Stadium, but I’m already looking forward to that first home match.”

The move signals an end to three ‘happy’ years playing for West Bromwich Albion, but as tough as it was for the striker to leave his former home he is looking forward to a new challenge in his career, saying:

“I’m really happy to join the club and begin a new challenge in my career after three happy years at West Brom.

“I received lots of fantastic messages from supporters and people at West Brom after leaving, and it was tough to say goodbye after sharing good memories there.

“But Wigan Athletic has given me the chance to challenge with them for promotion to the Premier League and that’s something I’m very excited about.

“Wherever I’ve played my football I’ve been used to fighting for my place in the team, and with so many games ahead of us this season we’re going to have many players competing for places in the team, so I’m looking forward to that challenge also.”
