Dundee United provide opposition for Coyle’s first game at DW

Wigan Athletic can announce they will take on Scottish Premier League side Dundee United in a pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium on Saturday 27 July with a 3.00pm kick off.

The game will see new Manager Owen Coyle take charge of his first home game at the DW Stadium, one week after arriving back from the team’s US tour, against another manager new in the job, Jackie McNamara, who took over at Tannadice this summer.

It’s not the first time the two sides have met in pre-season action, taking each other on at the home of the Arabs in August 2010, with Mauro Boselli scoring a brace and Victor Moses adding another in a 3-1 win for the visitors.

Looking forward to the match-up, Coyle said: “It’s going to be a good challenge for us before the start of the new season against a team I have fond memories of playing for.

“Jackie McNamara is a very good young manager who I think is going to have a bright future in the game and at Tannadice, so to test ourselves against them is going to tell us a lot about where we are at that stage of the pre-season.

“It’s also a chance for our fans to see how the team are progressing and how the new faces are fitting in ahead of the season, so their support I think will give the players a big lift before we face Barnsley on the opening day.”

Tickets are priced at £10.00 for adults and £5.00 for concessions. Full details will be released shortly.
