A group of young people from Hawkley Hall visited the Christopher Park Training Ground last month.

The children who are all involved in the Latics in the Community Just Join In football and sports programme had the chance to meet the Club’s first team stars before watching them in training.

Andy Duncalf from Hawkley Hall said: “The children had a fantastic day at the training ground. The Manager and players were great with the students and it was great for them to be up so close to the players and watch them train.”

The Just Join In project is funded by the Premier League and the PFA and sees coaches from the Community Trust work with over 50 children a week with disabilities.

The Trust offers a range of different sports to both special and mainstream schools including football, bocia, athletics, short tennis, kurling and basketball.

Through the coaching programme Latics in the Community coaches work with teachers to help the children improve their self-confidence and enjoyment of sport.

And as part of the Just Join In programme children are also given a pathway to go and play competitive football for Wigan Athletic against other North West football clubs.
