This week Wigan Athletic Community Trust launches its first ever impact report.

Latics in the Community: A Year in the Life of Wigan Athletic Community Trust highlights all the great work that the Community Trust did in schools and across the community during 2012.

Last year the Trust worked with over 10,000 people providing opportunities for young people, families and schools to be involved with Wigan Athletic.

Phillips Williams, Chairman of the Community Trust’s board of trustees said: “Through football Wigan Athletic and its Community Trust has the opportunity to make a difference in our community.

“The report highlights the tremendous work that goes on, sometimes behind the scenes, enhancing the relationship the Club has with supporters, community groups, charities and schools.”

Wigan Athletic Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson, who is also a trustee of the charity said: “At Wigan Athletic, engaging with local people, school children and sports clubs is one of our priorities.

“Both financially and strategically, football clubs are in unique position to change lives and produce positive impacts on the communities around them.

“We fully intend to make the most of this opportunity and to ensure that, whether we are winning on the pitch or not, we continue to deliver excellent results off it.”
