Midfielder believes FA Cup glory can provide memorable end to the season.
There’s no question in James McArthur’s mind between FA Cup success and Barclays Premier League survival, the ever-ambitious Scottish international wants both and claims Saturday’s final can help next week’s fight to stay up.
“There’s no reason why we can’t win all three of our remaining games because we’re a good side and we know that on our day we can beat anyone.
“There’s also no question of which we would rather have in terms of the FA Cup and Premier League survival because we want both.
“We feel that we can do the name of this club justice and win the FA Cup on Saturday.”
With the cup final coming just days before Latics’ penultimate Premier League game of the season against Arsenal, McArthur expressed that the team have always used the cup as momentum throughout the season.
“We’re able to concentrate on the FA Cup and Premier League separately and if anything, the cup has been a positive to our Premier League form because it has built up winning rhythms which will hopefully happen again.
“We’ve got three massive games now and we’re looking forward to all of them, but first we’ve got to address the highest profile game in Wigan Athletic history.
“Our target right now is to win the FA Cup then on Sunday after the game we’ll start to focus 100% on staying in the Premier League.”
To beat Manchester City on Saturday, McArthur believes a repeat performance from the league game last month is needed.
“Away from home a few weeks ago I thought we were sensational.
“It was one of our best performances of the season and we narrowly lost but if we put in a similar performance then we’ll be in great shape to get a result.
“We need to stop conceding as many goals to stand a chance because Man City are a very good attacking side but we’re confident that we can go into the game and influence the way it flows.”
