2013 Education Programmes for 16-18 year olds

Wigan Athletic Community Trust is currently recruiting students to take part in its innovative education programmes based at the Montrose Skills Hub. 

Aimed at young people, both boys and girls, between the ages of 16 – 18 the courses give students the chance to combine learning with playing and receiving football coaching from FA and UEFA qualified football coaches.

All the courses are free and will give participants the chance to gain valuable experience of learning at a professional football club.

BTEC Level 1 in Sport and Leisure: Starting in August 2013

  • Introductory seven week course that will give participants an insight into football and sports coaching
  • Travel expenses and lunch provided

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Leadership through Sport: Starting in September 2013

  • Three day a week course that runs until May 2013
  • Learn in the morning and train in the afternoon
  • Travel expenses and lunch provided
  • Play matches against other clubs
  • Complete a FA Level 1 coaching football award

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport: Starting in September 2013

  • Two year Futsal Education Scholarship that combines learning with playing and training in Futsal
  • Take part in fortnightly Futsal matches against other professional football clubs across the country
  • Equivalent to three A – Levels

Latics Apprenticeships: Starting July 2013

  • 18 month apprenticeship with Wigan Athletic Community Trust
  • Earn £95 per week plus travel expenses
  • Complete a Level 3 sports qualification and FA Level 1 and 2 in football coaching
  • Gain valuable experience in working in a variety of different sport settings.

David Calderbank, 18 from Standish who is currently studying for an apprenticeship with the Community Trust said: “To be involved with Wigan Athletic is an exciting chance that I am determined to make the most of.

“The apprenticeship has been very enjoyable and I am looking forward to continuing my studies and being part of Wigan Athletic Community Trust.”

All education courses are run in partnership with Pro-Co, TVS Education, @Futsal and the Football League Trust.
