Match Preview

Wigan Athletic were left disappointed not to have taken all three points after Nick Powell levelled the score as Latics came from behind to an Aleksandr Prudnikov goal at the DW Stadium a fortnight night.

Rubin Kazan have played five games against English clubs, with their record reading W2 D1 L2 (W2 D0 L0 at home – W0 D1 L2 in England). They have won both of their home games against English teams: 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur FC in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage in Kazan, and 3-2 against Chelsea FC in Moscow in last season's quarter-finals, though they lost that tie having been beaten 3-1 in London.

Their record in Kazan is formidable not having lost a home European tie in Kazan in 22 matches, and they have not concede a goal in the last seven of those matches.

Our Russian hosts' form has seen them pick up just two wins in their previous 10 matches, a run which sees them languishing in 12th place in the Russian Premier League.

Team News

Ben Watson has missed the two Russian training sessions through illness with manager Owen Coyle saying he will assess the midfielder on the day of the game.  Jean Beausejour has not travelled with the team having picked up a foot injury in training.  Mike Pollitt has been added to the European squad following the injury to Scott Carson at Charlton, UEFA granting the club special dispensation.

Wigan Athletic (from): Nicholls, Pollit, Crainey, Shotton, Rogne, McCann, Watson, Holt, McClean, Gomez, McManaman, McArthur, Boyce, Espinoza, Powell, Garcia, Perch, Barnett, Dicko, Fortune.
