Latics are preparing to make the trip to The Valley this Sunday to face Charlton Athletic
Charlton v Wigan Athletic
Sky Bet Championship
Sunday 27 October 2013, kick off 3.00pm
Tickets for the game will be available on the day from The Valley.
Latics will face Charlton for only the fifth time this Sunday with all four previous meetings having been in the Premier League.
If Latics are to record a win against Chalrton this Sunday they will have to buck the trend of all the previous meetings with the home side having won each of previous games, two wins apiece in total.
Charlton have have struggled to pick up victories so far this season, last week's impressive win at Blackburn only their second win of the campaign.
Wigan Athletic have not won away since the opening day victory at Barnsley. The four consecutive away defeats that followed also failed to produce any goals.
Owen Coyle shuffled his pack a little making five changes from the team that started the Blackpool game and is expected to do so again as Latics hit another intense period of fixtures.
There was a major injury blow for Latics in midweek as Owen Coyle learned the extent of Shaun Maloney's back problem which now seemingly stems from an existing hip injury. The Scotland international will undergo surgery which is expected to keep him out of action for at least three months. Maloney joins Ivan Ramis, Ali Al Habsi and Gary Caldwell on the long term list.
On a positive note Grant Holt played another hour in the Europa League clash with Rubin Kazan on Thursday suffering no ill effects as he looks to returned to full fitness. Holt was replaced in that game by Marc-Antoine Fortune who looked lively and gained more vital minutes after his lay off with a hamstring problem.
For Charlton Johnnie Jackson and Yann Kermorgant are both available for selection after injury althought they may have to settle for a place on the bench following last week's win at Blackburn, both were used as late substitutes in the game.
The key duo are now fully fit but Powell may want to stick with the starting line-up which secured a 1-0 win at Ewood Park to register their first away success this season.
Defenders Leon Cort and Chris Solly remain on the sidelines with knee problems but Powell has no new injury concerns.
Head to Head
The two sides have met on four previous occasions which were all top flight meetings and home side won the game on each occasion.
