James McCarthy joins Everton in 11th hour deal
Wigan Athletic can confirm that James McCarthy has completed a transfer to Everton Football Club, with seconds to spare of the transfer window.
After turning down an initial bid from Everton, a much improved offer acceptable to the club was lodged and the deal was able to go through at the last minute.
McCarthy arrived at Wigan Athletic in 2009 from Hamilton Academical and has since gone on to make 120 league appearances and score seven goals, the majority of which coming in the Premier League.
His debut came against Manchester United at the DW Stadium in August 2009, and on making his first league start for the club, at Molyneux against Wolves in January 2010 he scored his first Premier League goal.
His development whilst at the DW Stadium has led to the midfielder becoming a full Republic of Ireland international, making his debut for Giovanni Trapattoni in February 2010 in a friendly match against Brazil at The Emirates Stadium.
