Chris Laird takes post following departure of Stuart Hayton

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Laird as the club’s new Football Secretary.

Chris replaces Stuart Hayton who served the club with distinction for 20 years before leaving to join Liverpool this week.

A fully qualified solicitor, Chris has spent the last three years as Assistant Secretary at Stoke City, gaining valuable experience of the role with both Premier League and UEFA Europa League demands, and is excited to be bringing that expertise to Latics.

He said: “I would first of all like to thank all the staff at Wigan Athletic, and Stuart Hayton, for making me feel incredibly welcome at the club.

“I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity and I’m looking forward to helping the club progress and develop from behind the scenes.

“I’ve heard and witnessed the fantastic job done by Stuart in this role for such a long time, and I hope I can bring as much to the team behind the scenes to help bring success to Wigan Athletic.”

Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson added:

"We are delighted that Chris has agreed to join us. His football administration experience and legal expertise will be invaluable for us as we look to progress as a football club.

"The Club Secretary role is such an important position within any club and to bring someone of Chris' calibre to Wigan Athletic is a real boost. He comes very highly recommended and I look forward to working closely with him on all football matters."
