We take a look at the results from our loan players across the Football League.
Danny Redmond’s Carlisle United need a result from their trip to Crawley Town on Tuesday evening if they are to stand any chance of maintaining their place in Sky Bet League One.
A 1-0 home defeat to Oldham Athletic on Saturday, in which Redmond played the final 19 minutes, meant Graham Kavanagh’s Cumbrians will require a minimum of four points from their final two games to stand any chance of survival.
Four points will only be enough for Redmond and Co. if Crewe Alexandra and Tranmere Rovers both lose on the final day of the campaign.
Jordan Mustoe’s Morecambe ended a torrid run of form to ensure they remained in the Football League with a 3-0 win at AFC Wimbledon.
It was a bittersweet afternoon for Mustoe, though, with the young defender replaced after ten minutes due to injury.
Goals from Jack Redshaw, Jamie Devitt and Padraig Amond secured the three points for the Shrimps, lifting them to 18th in Sky Bet League Two – six points above the drop-zone ahead of their final day clash at home to Bury.
Also in the fourth tier, Adam Buxton’s Accrington Stanley were all-but safe heading into the final week of the campaign but an impressive 2-1 win at play-off chasing Oxford United made sure of safety for James Beattie’s side.
Buxton played 90 minutes as Kayode Odejayi and James Gray gave Stanley a two-goal lead before Ryan Williams pulled one back for the hosts.
The Crown Ground outfit sit seven points above the drop in 16th and a win over AFC Wimbledon on the final day of the campaign could see them record their highest finish since their return to the Football League in 2011.
In the Premier League, Grant Holt’s Aston Villa face a nervy final three games after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Swansea left the Villans within three points of the relegation zone.
A double from Wilfried Bony, as well as strikes from Jonjo Shelvey and Pablo Hernandez earned Garry Monk’s side the three points and safety after Gabby Agbonlahor had earlier equalised for Paul Lambert’s side.
Holt will hope to feature in the crunch clash with Hull City at Villa Park on Saturday with Villa facing tough trips to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in their final two league games.
