Carson to play first league game since December says Uwe Rosler.
Uwe Rosler has confirmed that goalkeeper Scott Carson will start this evening’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Millwall.
Rosler insisted that regular number one Ali Al Habsi has not been dropped, but after 25 of Latics’ last 26 games in all competitions he feels that he will benefit from a rest.
Carson, who himself was a regular in the early part of the season, will make his 20th appearance of the campaign.
Rosler said: “Scott will replace Ali in the side as I feel Ali will benefit from the rest mentally as well as physically.
“I want to make it totally clear that Ali has not been dropped, because he has done nothing wrong but Scott will come in as a more than able replacement.
“I think the message to Scott, and any other player playing on Tuesday night, is that if he produces a very good performance then he gives me a selection headache for Saturday.
“Ali has played 21 consecutive league games and when there are so many games coming thick and fast I feel you need to bring a new dynamic to the dressing room and to have such a big personality as Scott back in the team can breathe a new energy for the game against Millwall.”
