UWE ROSLER’S BIRMINGHAM CITY PREVIEW

28 April 2014

We’re re-grouped and ready says Uwe Rosler ahead of ‘pressure’ clash with Birmingham City.

Speaking during his pre-Birmingham City press call, Uwe Rosler said his Wigan Athletic side have got the preferred type of pressure heading into the game and believes his players are ready for the mental battle.

Rosler said:

“We’ve been re-grouping and preparing for Birmingham with a lot of individual talks.

“On Sunday we had our usual recovery session, with a shorter training session today ahead of travelling down to Birmingham.

“We’re all looking forward to the game and there’s a great spirit in the camp that we are going to achieve what we’re setting out to do.”

Rosler continued:

“These pressure situations are exactly what we play this sport for, we want to have games that mean something to us and we want to have something to fight for, that’s exactly what we’ve got against Birmingham City.

“I prefer the pressure we have got on us compared to the pressure Birmingham have got on themselves.

“There is pressure in the game and it will count for something for either team in the end, but in terms of form going into the game, we are at the stage of the season when it doesn’t really mean much.

“Nobody is looking at the previous six games or six months, as managers we have to select the group of players with the ability and the mental strength to perform on the day.”

With just two games remaining to secure a place in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs, Latics need to secure three more points in what has been a mammoth season for the Club, but Rosler believes the physical aspect of playing so many games will not have as big a part to play as most people make out.

“I’m asking my players to put in a top performance and it’s all about who can perform under the pressure.

“At this stage of the season the physical demands on players are the same for every team.

“Now is the time to fight through mental pain barriers to accomplish our aims, and I have a very good group of players who are capable of doing so.”
