A PREVIEW OF MALKY MACKAY'S NORWICH PROGRAMME NOTES

5 December 2014

A preview of Malky Mackay's Norwich City programme notes.

LET’S START WITH A THANK YOU

Let me start by saying a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the club for the welcome they have given during my first couple of weeks here.  I have to say that both myself and David Kerslake have been blown away by it.

And a word for the supporters too. During games, they have been terrific, but the people you meet at the stadium, on the streets, everyone has been just brilliant – which increases even more the determination to bring back the success this place clearly deserves.

A DECENT START – BUT DEFINITELY FOOD FOR THOUGHT

I’ve got to be satisfied with the level of both performances so far and when you look back in the cold light of day, we’ve created enough opportunities to win both games and I’m disappointed for the players that they couldn’t earn any greater rewards points wise.

Clearly, we also need to eradicate silly mistakes which are costing us points. This is a priority.

Games in the Championship are often decided on tiny margins – these two matches show that perfectly – margins and it’s up to us to keep doing all the right things in order for those margins to swing our way.

PRODUCTIVE WEEK

It’s been great to have another full week under our belt, which gives us the chance to get to know the players better, and for them to know us. I’m seeing a lot of positives in terms of the squad’s attitude, work rate and honesty. There is a willingness to take this situation by the scruff of the neck and work our way through it.  That’s very encouraging.

WELCOME TO NORWICH

Norwich City is a club that will always be close to my heart having spent the best part of six years there.

Their squad is filled with quality and they will be a threat.  But we need to approach the game with the same positive frame of mind we approach any match.

I am desperate to bring success to Wigan Athletic and from what I have seen so far in terms of the players and the staff here, everything points to the fact that we shouldn’t be in the position we are.

But the reality is that we are and now it is up to all of us to consistently reach the levels we are capable of.

Today we need everyone to get behind the players again and to keep pushing them for the full 95 minutes.

Enjoy the game

Malky
