Christmas Truce football tournament on at Wigan Youth Zone

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Christmas Truce football game that was held between the British and German troops in World War One.

As part of the Christmas Truce game celebrations taking place at Latics upcoming match against Rotherham, Wigan Athletic Community Trust have organised a football tournament for Wigan junior footballers, to commemorate the occasion.

Teams can register to play in the five-a-side tournament for free, with the competition being split into two age groups, 12-14s and 15-19s.

Those who participate will also each receive one free ticket to Wigan Athletic v Rotherham that afternoon.

The overall winners of the competition will then have the opportunity to represent Latics in the North West Kicks League.

The tournament, which has been organised in partnership with Wigan Council, will take place from 10am – 2pm at Wigan Youth Zone on Saturday 20th December.

If you and your team would like to take part in the tournament, please contact Tom Drake, Community Cohesion Co-Ordinator, for more information, on 01942 488 530 or email
