Al Habsi disappointed with Huddersfield result but ready to keep pushing.

Following yesterday’s 1-0 defeat away to Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship, Ali Al Habsi said the team were disappointed after what he believed was a good performance.

The Oman international said:

“We’re very disappointed with the result because we had a good game.

“We created a lot of chances away from home and put in a lot of crosses but we couldn’t score.

“We had a very good spell in the second half and the lads passed the ball around really well.

“In difficult conditions we looked comfortable in our passing through the wind and rain, we created chances but couldn’t score and eventually the victory we came for was taken away from us.”

The majority of Al Habsi’s hard work came late in the game as Latics stifled Huddersfield’s threats, but the goalkeeper remained alert, particularly for Oliver Norwood’s thunderous 40-yard free kick with 10 minutes remaining.

“For the free kick I got a touch on the ball to tip it onto the cross bar and it came down and hit my back.

“I jumped back onto the ball straight away because I thought it could have gone off me and into the net, it was a very good shot.

“It was disappointing to concede the goal because we hadn’t been troubled too much before it, but we have to brush ourselves off from this because we have another game coming very soon.”

Latics travel back to Yorkshire on Tuesday night in the re-arranged Sheffield Wednesday fixture, a game Al Habsi believes the team can quickly recover in.

“Sheffield Wednesday will be another tough game, but it’s a brilliant chance for us to bounce back straight away.

“Having the game on Tuesday is a positive for us because we can focus on getting back to winning ways very quickly.

“Hopefully we can recreate the same performance level as we did against Huddersfield, but make sure we score goals.

“We’ve got to keep going, we have a good team and a good squad and we have to keep pushing and pushing.”
